I was just wondering if anyone here has had the opportunity to attend any of the "Lord of the Rings Symphonies" which have been performed both around the country (USA) and around the world.
Zauber and Olorie will be joining me in July here in Philly to see Howard Shore conduct. ;D

Hilary:
Please tell us about the symphony after you attend! We would all love to hear about it! Has a symphony been planned for the Chicago or Milaukee areas at all? I have not checked lately. I should go do that! Now where is Howard Shore's web site address? (I think it is posted in the Palantír Post! I'm headed that way now!)
*huff*puff* Boy, I had to go to the ARCHIVE Palantír Post to find it! I went to the Howard Shore site and got an update on the symphonies and then I posted over on our new Palantír Post forum so that we could keep it up to date!

Colleen was fortunate enough to attend the Symphony in Atlanta, and she shared the following with us:

The Lord of the Rings Symphony
“Composer Howard Shore will conduct a series of concerts around the world of his epic six movements The Lord of the Rings Symphony. The first confirmed date is Friday 16th April 2004, in Antwerp, Belgium.”
“Leading composer Howard Shore will personally conduct the Flemish Radio Orchestra and Choir.”
So Friday the 16th April, Alaere Dunhilien, her ranger Slone with his sister Éowyn, Rhaido, Pearlbloom Greenleaf, Orgulas Lostlindeion , and I, Aeleorn, went to ‘Het Sportpaleis’ in Antwerp to go and see Howard Shore perform his six movements.
It was actually a beautiful day. Pearlbloom and I met, first, at the trainstation in Antwerp. We went out on the town for some good and very refreshing Belgian beer, and of course to find a decent restaurant where we could wait for out other friends to arrive. Rhaido was the first to arrive at this Argentinian Steak house. Only a few moments later, the others followed. It was a happy gathering of our little Lowlands fellowship and the food and wine (and beer) were plenty.
After dinner, we rushed to ‘Het Sportpaleis’ where we were greeted by so many other LOTR fans. In the parking lot, we didn’t just see our own Belgian license plate numbers. There were also Dutch cars, French cars, and German cars. We followed the flow into the building.
Alaere and Slone, who had arranged the tickets, actually found us some wonderful places. We could see the whole stage, and according to an elder lady, bearing a Lorien leaf, the man who played the pauks (? Don’t know the English word), was no one other than Tolkien’s grandson.
The music was heavenly. ‘Gollum’s Song’ and ‘Into the West’ were performed by a scandianavian singer called Sissel. Beautiful artwork from Allan Lee and John Howe was projected on the background. We all had goose bumps and watched the whole concert on the tip of our chair. And then, suddenly, the sixth movement was over…
A bit sad, we all returned to the cars and silently went on our way. Het Sportpaleis where Howard Shore probably was still dwelling, diminished in the rear view mirror, and then, disappeared completely. In a pub in Zele, we all got together again and looked back on that special evening. After the consumption of a few spirited drinks, we continued our (always) vivid discussions.
I hope that the concerts you’re going to attend will be as good as the one we’ve been privileged to attend, here, in our little country.
Love, Aeleorn

My Goddess!!! Post the pictures you took (I hope you took some?) as soon as possible! It sounds like a superb evening, and the only thing I think that could have been better would have been Annie Lennox herself, doing "Into the West".
I can't remember who did "Gollums Song" on the soundtrack, but that was superb also! And seeing both Howe and Lee art on the background, must have been the best. I am sooo envious! Not least of which, is the friendship the Lowland Group has found.

Hilary, thanks for posting Colleen's account of the concert. I really envy him/her for getting to meet Alan Lee.
Aeleorn, your account was so vivid, made me wish I could be there, too. Somehow I don't think that Howard Shore will come in the southeastern corner of Europe. It would be wonderful, though, if he did. I wouldn't miss it.

Made me feel very sentimental. My Navy grandsons play trumpet, sax, and a little trombone so it was especially touching for me.
I may have to get the books or movies back out! I still hope my husband would watch the movies or at least catch some parts of them when I play them.

That is cool, I can see how it would work on the ole emotions, hope the grandkids get back home for the Holidays! Just yesterday they had the LOTR movies on TV, had not seen them for years, watched a bit, decided to do another re-read starting with The Hobbit. I've got an old VHS of The Hobbit somewhere -- prefer it in many ways to the DVD versions of PJ, though I do like PJs layout of Erebor and Dale. I still have seen only part one of PJs Hobbit. You Tube has several shorts with music that I do view from time to time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8ymgFyzbDo

Quenten is on the USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER near Iran. He has one year to go so he won't be back for Christmas.
Colten is on the USS PATRIOT in Japan helping salvage the Osprey crash. He just got over there for the start of his 4-year duty so he won't be back this Christmas either.
But we just saw both of them this Fall camping so that was nice.

I keep remembering how many guys from the Midwest wind up in the Navy, graduating class of 80 males in my high school and I think the local newspaper proudly proclaimed 11 were going the fleet. I wonder if most of the kids in coastal areas join the army...
