My favourite forest just has to be the magical, mystical, enchanting Golden Wood, Lothlórien... Plus, Elves dwell there, or at least, they used to. The mallorn trees have always intrigued me anyhow... And I'd love to see Caras Galadhon, the Heart of Elvendom... *Thoughts wander dreamily off, and she just sits, gazing into nothingness*

Well, the encounter I had in the Old Forest with those wargs, together with my dear friend, Alaere, wasn't one of my happiest times on Arda. So, my favourite wood, most definatly not the Old Forest.
I'm not of elf-kind, so, sorry my old friend, I'm not joining you in Lothlórien, although it sounds like a lovely place...
And the other remaining forests? There is only one that appeals to me: Fangorn Forest. I have spent a lot of time out there, and joined a few of the entmoots... Interesting place, I must say!
See you around, Fangorn!
Love, Aeleorn

I was always intrigued by Lothlórien every time I read the books. The trees sound utterly breathtaking. I also love the idea of the Elves living in the trees in flets. Caras Galadon sounds so beautiful and mysterious. I think PJ did a nice job of capturing this beauty and mystery when he did the film.
My next favorite forest is Mirkwood! It is so dark, dank, scary and terrifying! When I read The Hobbit for the first time, I just could not put the book down. The eyes of the creatures peering at the dwarfs and the spiders was very vivid for me.

I went with Mirkwood. My unHobbit side likes the mystery of it!

I love nature and especially forests and the magical Golden Wood has enchanted me since I first read about it. I imagine it as breathtakingly beautiful, and those amazing mellyrn... I can't resist to put here Legolas' description of it:
"That is the fairest of all the dwellings of my people. There are no trees like the trees of that land. For in the autumn their leaves fall not, but turn to gold. Not till the spring comes and the new green opens do they fall, and then the boughs are laden with yellow flowers; and the floor of the wood is golden, and golden is the roof, and its pillars are of silver, for the bark of the trees is smooth and grey."
Really, I can't imagine anywhere more beautiful! No wonder I chose Lothlorien as my favourite place of Middle-earth as well.
I also like Fangorn and Mirkwood, both of them dark and mysterious. Although the latter, if I remember correctly, was named Greenwood again after the War of the Ring and there was no evil there anymore.

well, my favorite as of now is lothlorien. for it is so magical and is full of such wonders, and i love trees, i always have.... except when i climbed one and my friend snuck up and startled me and i fell out of it, but thats not the trees fault... so i was pretty much mad at a tree for no reason....

I chose Greenwood the Great. Lothlorien is by far the more beautiful of the two, but there'e no place like home. lol

Definitely Lothlorien. It sounds like one of the most beautiful breathtaking things one could ever see. I also like the fact that "lorien" in Elvish means "dream." An appropriate description for Tolkien's work in general.

Lothlórien for me as well! It's always been quite special with the golden woods (autumn can be very lovely with those colourful trees). I definitely see it as a place of peace and quietness, where one can wander and relax. The architecture of Caras Galadhon is amazing! I've always liked the artwork about it.

THE WOODY END
My favorite forest in Middle-earth actually changes according to my mood -- so sometimes I am more content to stalk with high adrenalin through Mirkwood; or watch with mounting consternation the tree-shiftings of the Old Forest. For some unspecified reason, I do not often walk through Loth-lorien, too much of an Elvish hothouse atmosphere, too rich for my blood?
I seem to wander more frequently through the less exotic "patches" of Middle-earth's wooded land. Walks through the comfortable reaches of the Woody End are constantly recurring in my mind. The Woody End is described in enough detail (as Frodo and Sam walk through it) to be a very real place for me.
It is also, now I think on it, a "manageable" sort of woods, a quiet place of ordinary wonders where you can watch a curled leaf go down a glassy stream, passing between familiar banks of moss and fern. Then, with a sudden snap of your turning head, you catch the merest glimpse of a smililing Elf, disappearing into some thicket -- every-day magics, spiced periodically with small bits of the weird. Elves walk there, Elves dance there, Elves sing there -- but seldom are they seen. All this within half a day's ramble from the homes of the mundane Hobbits.
I suppose it is this "manageable" aspect of the Woody End that appeals to the stolid Hobbit side of my own personality -- where a long day's hike ends with the gathered mushrooms being shared-out over a foamy brew. I like all my excursions to end in a homey tavern where I can get a mound of taters and onions, and a pile of boiled beef. Adventures? Well, no need to chase dragons across the mountains when you can poke your nose under the needled skirts of a Woody End pine, and see a wild blue orchid pushing its blooms toward the sun!
