The picture was lost--it was entitled "Merry" by Inger Edelfeldt
Wk5, Bk5, Ch6, DISCUSSION: In Merry’s Eyes
Just as Pippin painted the horrors of the Siege of Gondor in our mind’s eye, Merry recounts the terrors that befall the Pelennor Fields. One difference I notice is that Pippin describes what he sees from the walls of Minas Tirith; Merry is in the center of the action and is swept into it. Do you see other differences in these narratives?

From: sparrow Sent: 4/21/2003 10:39 AM Another simimlarity is that both Merry & Pippin were released from their oaths of service, to Theoden and Denethor, respectively, and both chose to continue to serve, Merry, secretly and Pippin openly. However, Pippin ends up acting contrary to Denethor's wishes - afraid to say more b/c I might get into a spoiler? - while Merry, though doing the same in one sense because he secretly accompanies the Riders to battle, is actually fighting to further Theoden's wishes.
