Éowyn, Merry, Pippin and Beregond have all disobeyed orders. What are their reasons for disobeying? Do you think their decision to disobey was easy to make? Was each person justified for his/her decision to disobey? What consequences will they suffer for their disobedience? Are their actions serious crimes against their King/Steward? Even though their disobedience resulted in something beneficial,do you think they will or should be punished for their disobedience? Please do not give out any spoilers when answering these questions. (I'm particularly thinking about Beregond here)

From: Alaere_Dûnhilien Sent: 4/24/2003 4:33 AM The reason they all are disobeying orders, is because they are all fighting for the common good. If they hadn't done it, many things would have turned out very differently, and not always in a good way. I think especially for Beregond and Éowyn the decision must have been hard to make. Éowyn's and Merry's reasons are actually very similar: Merry does not want to be left behind as "luggage", but neither does Éowyn: both want to prove their worth and show that they are capable of great deeds. I guess in theory, all of their actions are rather serious crimes, especially Beregond's, but under these circumstances they just didn't have another choice. I don't think they should be punished, they should be rewarded! Sometimes it is necessary to take risks, in their case to go against their orders (and especially when these orders are not just), to achieve something good. Navaer, Alaere
