Hello, Everyone ~~~
Just stopping by once more to say hello again, with not much more to report on, or to contribute, I'm afraid, since the last time I was here...
Today is a rather grey blah day around here, & it's raining outside ( for the first time in quite a while ) - which the way it should be in the middle of Feburary, anyhow...
Been frequently "under the weather" a lot lately - latest afflliction seems to be some kind of stomach flu which has been going on about a week now...
Anyway, hope to revisit sometime soon...

Hullo, Ardo!
Oh, it has been a long time.
Ah, the weather here -- after a nasty freeze that shattered our yard-irrigation valve (repairs tomorrow) -- has been GREAT. We've had three, so far, bright sunny days, 60s F. This is the way I like my Februarys!
Lots of sickness this winter, had a sinus infection for three months, yuck, better now, just a sore throat...
Hope you get lots better, and soon!
Drop in again, always welcome. You and your family take care of each other!

We had 22 inches of snow and high winds which caused 6 to 8 ft drifts up against our house, garage, and barn. It took us 5 days to get dug out enough. We couldn't get to our plowing equipment to even get started on moving the snow! But future son-in-law came to the rescue with his buddy and dug us out. Once we got to our equipment, we were able to finish up. We couldn't even get to our horse trailer it was buried in huge drifts and snow came into our barn and dettached garage, too.
Now we have warmer weather and everything is starting to melt. Thursday is supposed to be 57°F and that is pretty warm for February in the Rockford/Chicago area. But Saturday is going to get cold again and more snow is predicted.

Hello, Andorhina & Stormrider! ~~~
Haha, you guys know what real weather is, whereas I have been living in Camelot out here in the Bay Area all of my life...
Never known sub-freezing temps or had to deal with snow ( I've only ever seen snow from a distance, like up on the top of hills or mountains, except for one solitary snowflake I saw once, that floated down past my high school cafeteria window, & some snow drifts by the side of the road glimpsed through the window of a greyhound bus... Snow deprived... LOL, I lived in San Francisco for a year. Lovely weather year round, but the Bay was a bit chilly, even in the summer.
We had another snow storm last week, but it coated only those grounds at 5,000 feet and up to the summits at 9,000. Our house sits right at 3200, so we got more frosted plants at 28 degrees overnight, and some rain, but no more snow. May drive up to the peaks this weekend, build one last snowman before the hot weather sets in...

Luckily, after that big snowstorm, we have only had little dustings. Most of it is melted now but where we had huge mountains from digging out, we still have some snow piles left.
But it is starting to feel more like Spring around here. Temps in the 40's now. The horses are starting to shed their winter coats, too.

It had been Spring-like here. But it is now snowing again! Baseball opening day was yesterday. So it's a bit dreary to find it snowing when baseball has finally returned.
Away from The Green (turning white again) Hill Country,

"Up to lately..." Royal Watching, me?
Going through a period of insomnia, so I sat in front of the TV, 3 AM to 5 AM, watched parts of the grande wedding ceremony and associated parades for a while. Wife is taping the whole affair, so she'll be busy viewing the happy couple most of the day...
I did like the decoration of the Abbey with what appeared to be 20 foot tall sprays of foliage, gave the cathedral an "outdoorsy," forested look. Wife will soon be able to tell me all about the all-important wedding gown, and whether it "succeeded or failed."

I only saw the happy couple exiting the cathedral and getting into the royal horse-drawn carriage and riding off. (I had plenty of sleep during the night) I liked Kate's gown. It was lovely because it was simple yet elegant.

Yes, I have been reliably informed that the dress was a success. Also, that this marks a real "comeback" for the monarchy in Britain after 30 years of public relations disasters. At any rate, the Brits do put on a good show.

Hello, Everybody ~~~ I've been gone for quite some time and some may have heard rumors that I wandered off into the back of beyond and came to a bad end, (fallen off a mountain path, or been eaten by a troll, perhaps) but as you can see, I am still around - perhaps a bit worse for wear but still hanging in there... Just before the very beginning of September, I was rather excited at the prospect of attending a rather low-key affair at a bookstore in the nearby town of Alameda - a little fete celebrating the anniversary of the publication of "The Hobbit" (which was coming up in a couple weeks time, at the time ) ... My wife and I had generally not been getting out very much, not going to street fairs or other events very often, for quite a while, but I was fairly certain we'd be able to make this little party... But then, on September 2nd, something happened which threw all of our plans out the window - and what happened is that my wife had a stroke... At first I thought it was another one her TIAs (the little itty-bitty "baby strokes") but it just kept going and going and of course I had to call 911 and get her taken off to the emergency room at the hospital... So she was in the hospital for a couple of weeks and then in a hospital rehab center and then she returned home the second week in October... Needless to say, everything in our lives got all turned upside- down, and nothing's been all that easy to cope with, and we've both found ourselves losing our patience and our tempers with each other at times, but at other times it does seem as though we will pull through all right in the end... I'd like to come back for some more visits again later on - perhaps chat about "The Hobbit" movie and so on ... Finally got a new second-hand computer set up at home here, and so far it's been working like a charm... Hope all is well with everyone ...

Yes, very sorry to hear about this, Ardo. How is she doing now?

It has been a long while! Yeah, figured you ran off into the blue with some disreputable Hedge-wizard (Fanuidhol) and came to an untimely end -- most likely tossed from a pony in the middle of some supposedly safe river crossing...
Saddened to hear about your wife, Ardo, hoping for her quick and steady return to full health. Give her our best wishes.
Ah, a functioning computer! That sounds good, just in time to get your impressions of the up-coming movie event. Nice "seeing" you again!

I have not been on line lately-for a couple of months anyway. I have had some things going on in my life that have kept me AFK. first of all I went on a new regimen in regards to weight loss. Namely I am supposed to cut way back on the carbs(darn) & I am going to gym 3X weekly(groan). But far more disheartening was the death of my brother from Pancreatic Cancer in October-he was diagnosed 4 years ago & had surgery then & was pretty much OK till about a year ago. They found that the cancer had spread & started him on chemo but he started a slow downhill slide a short time later. In April on his 70th Birthday my sister, younger brother, & I were there w/him In Oregon for a celebration-the first time we had all been together in 40yrs. He was still holding his own at that time probably in part by sheer stubborn will power. In late summer things grew steadily worse till 17 Oct. when he passed away. On Nov. 3 we held a celebration of life. It feels so strange that he is gone-especially since I am the eldest. So I am adjusting to my new reality & am happy to have The Hobbit to look forward to as winter sets in-tho we are having some very un-November like weather here. 8^)
