Hi Andorinha -
You are very welcome! And I'm happy that my posting led you to this calendar. You don't have to pre-order. I already have a copy of the UK printing.
There is something about Mr. Blok's work that appeals to me (and you . . . and Professor Tolkien approved of and owned some of his work. If that's not enough testimony, I don't know what is!) His minimalism is in complete contrast to the uber-realism of John Howe and the excellent landscapes of Ted Nasmith.
I posted pictures of the calendar that are rather low resolution. (But it was warm and sunny here today. So at least the color balance of the photos is good and the colors true to the original.) You will not be able to read much of the text. But the first four inside pages of the calendar are a history and explanation of his work by Mr. Blok. What you also won't be able to read is that several people who own some of these works gave HarperCollins permission to use them in this calendar. Among them are Pieter Collier (on whose Tolkien Library website you found the interview above) and Jan Boom (Fangorn in Tolkiendom, and more fitting name no Tolkien fan has ever assumed.) Fangorn is friends with Mr. Blok, got him to inscribe and sign a copy of the calendar, and sent it to me. It is a jewel in my collection (and among many that I have been fortunate to have signed by many artists.)

Anorinha: Use the little world icon in the tool bar and insert the full url link address within it. I went in and edited your previous post. Some urls are just too long to become an actual link at proboards unless you use the little world icon in the tool bar. That way people can just click on your link.

wow! rather abstract (or should I say minimalized) but very interesting. The Sept. Slaying of the Nazgûl was rather interesting being an Eowyn fan myself.

ROLF!!! Thanks for the editorial assistance, Stormrider! Sigh, I get all trepitous with anxiety trying html stuff, but I'll give it a whirl, never to old to learn, though maybe too slow... GRINS
There, just tried an emoticon, see if it shows up.
At the risk of spoiling the surprise, it is the 1986 Beyond Bree calendar. It is a rarely seen issue and only the second of their series. I featured this one in anticipation of the issue of their 2011 calendar which commemorates the 30th anniversary of Beyond Bree. Congratulations to Nancy Martsch and all who support this active society.

I've been waiting for this month's calendar! What a patient person to sketch all the brickwork on the Farmer Giles of Ham's castle.
I liked the picture "trapped in the barrow", too. That is the first time I have ever seen one done on that subject. Funny thing, too. I am re-reading the LOTR which I haven't done since our B&N class just before the FOTR movie came out. When I got to the barrow down chapter, I was thinking it would be a great subject for a sketch or painting and that I might do one myself. I hope I won't be influenced by this picture if I do attempt one myself!
How very nice to hear from you. Of course, it would be nice to hear from anyone here! It is too quiet! Reminds me of the Halls of Khazad-dum!
Finally (and only just - an eBay auction that ended last Thursday evening) acquired a copy of the 1969 Tim Kirk calendar. It was the first one ever (an insert into the December 1968 Meretricious art supplement of the LASFS Shangri l'Affaires journal.) Am really thrilled to file that void in my collection. Of the 328 that I have been able to catalog, that one gives me an even 300. Hoping that I can be lucky enough to fill some of the more common voids.
My daughter and I laid out the 2011 Heren Istarion calendar today. Just need the centerfold artwork and a biography and we can print it. It will feature Anke Eissmann, Sue Wookey (of Galley Hill Art), and Jef Murray with a special centerfold illustration by Catherine Sparsidis commemorating HI/NETS 10th anniversary. This will be the fourth year that we have done this.

Yes, it is very quiet around here. The few of us who do post must be very busy. I know I have been because the drill team, instead of winding down for the season, suddenly has had several more performances scheduled!
Congratulations on your acquisition of the 1969 Tim Kirk calendar. Wonderful news that you are working on the 2011 Heren Istarion calendar--goodness 4th edition already! Sue Wookey is a new name for me. I went to Galley Hill Art and found a link for her name and saw some of her art. She is very good and puts a lot of color into her work. She will be a nice addition to the calendar.

Hi Stormrider -
How very nice to hear from you! Glad you liked this one. It seems to have struck a chord with many who have viewed it. Don't feel too badly about my "sacrifice." I still have two other unopened copies of this one. I was the very fortunate recipient of several gifts from a fellow fanatic in Prague. I owe him a debt of gratitude that I try to repay each Christmas!
How has your riding gone this year? Hope horse and rider are both well!

Parm:
I'm glad you have some nice friends and contacts in the Tolkien Calendar realm. It helps to have people to clue you in on calendars and new ones coming out. And very nice that you can trade off and share calendars!
We have had a very long and busy equestrian drill season this year. All three of our teams have been kept very busy. We ended our season yesterday as a matter of fact. The team I ride on, The Renegades, and the kids' team, the Dirt Devils, both took first places in the competition! Woo Hoo!
The trick riding team, The Dare Devils, (my daughter DesiBaggins rides on this team) performed at several places and made some extra cash for the team for equipment, etc. this year. We lost half the team because they went off to college but we have four new girls learning the tricks and drill for next year!
All of our teams and specialty acts put together a big show in the middle of July to benefit the Woodstock Veterans. We hosted the show at the McHenry County Fairgrounds and the Veterans also came out and did their Honor Guard for the flag. All our teams and specialty acts and other friends who ride with classic dressage performed. We had tons of raffle items and all money (except for fee for the rental of the arena) went to the Veterans. We made them $1,000 that day. We are so thankful to all our wonderful men and women who defend our beautiful country and we wanted to say thank you the only way we know how.

Stormy- On TV the other day they had the World Equestrian Games which was held @ Kentucky Horse Park it included; 3 day eventing, driving, reining(Western), Dressage, & Vaulting all of which I believe they said are Olympic sports. They showed a lot of the reining, 3-day & jumping but only a little of the driving & vaulting. I hope that the Olympic coverage of both will be better! I bet you will enjoy it too! 8^)

Vanye:
We watched the World Eq Games the first weekend it was on on TV. Some of our team members actually went down there in person to see everything. One of the girls actually did the eventing--cross country jumping, stadium jumping, and dressage--when she was in high school so she was very interested in watching the events.
The fourth in this series of calendars, it features another wonderful cover by Jef Murray, illustrations by Anke Eissmann and Sue Wookey, and a specially created centerfold by Catherine Sparsidis commemorating their 10th anniversary. Net proceeds benefit this official Tolkien Society smial. My daughter and I printed a rather limited edition: only 65 will be available!
