August 30, 2004 There is a new TV show called Lost on ABC in the Fall line up. It premieres on September 22nd and will be on Wednesday nights at 8/7c. Dominic Monaghan is on the cast! This is a story of 48 people whose plane crashed on a Pacific Island and they have to work together to survive. The island they are on has "cruel weather and harsh terraine with mysterious creatures stalking the jungles" of the island they are on! It sounds like quite an action packed adventure! Well, I watched the premiere of the show. Did anyone else?
The plane hit the island and I would have expected it to have been crunched more and to have burst into flames right away so that no one would have survived--but there were 40-some people who survived! Luckily one guy is a doctor (Jack) and he helped out.
Dominic Monaghan is Charlie who is a member of some rock band. He, Jack, and the girl (I forgot her name) went to look for the front end of the plane and to get the transmitter from it so that they could get in contact with rescue teams.
However, there seems to be something big and scary out there and it took the pilot that they found in the cockpit and yanked him out of the plane and blood splurted onto the window. So........what is this creature? I will have to wait until NEXT WEEK to find out! Ratts!
It is too soon to know if I will like this show or not but it did keep my interest and I like the air of mystery, too.

The guy that wants a kiss from the Doc's girl in next week's previews what is up with him?

Lost is the best show I've seen in years and I am totally into it. The stories of these people are slowly dribbling out and 'that guy's' story hasn't been told yet, so we don't know what's up with him. If you've missed most of the episodes you've missed a LOT! I don't know how it would be to try to hook in now, but I often find myself yelling out loud during this show it's so exciting (or maddening). I haven't done that since seeing the Ents striding toward Isengard in a TTT trailer. I actually stood up and screamed at that!

I have been watching the show since the first episode but missed one and a half episodes. I will definately check out the links that you just posted, Magpie. They are sure to fill in a few gaps that I have.
I love this show! It just gets better each week! Dominic plays an interesting character and this past week was very interesting to learn what "Charlie" was all about! I also read in the TV guide that his character will not get killed off either since all the Lord of the Rings fans would be disappointed to see him die!

Ah.. Sawyer. I was immediately aware that the writers set it up so that the people 'confronting' Sawyer weren't actually asking if (A) he had the medication and (B) would he give it to them. They were immediately hostile and confrontational. Now Sawyer, at the least, has a chip on his shoulder and loves to goad people but, my goodness, the 'good guys' sure didn't show their best side, did they? I've always been reminded of Viggo when I see Sawyer. I've wondered if they saw him as a Viggo clone (it's not uncommon for the 'suits' to want to cast people who resemble popular actors/actresses). I wasn't sure if I was being reminded just of Viggo or Viggo's portrayal of Aragorn. No... make that Strider, not Aragorn. Remember what Strider said in Bree: "But I must admit,' he added with a queer laugh, 'that I hoped you would take to me for my own sake. A hunted man sometimes wearies of distrust and longs for friendship. But there, I believe my looks are against me.'" I kept thinking this in the first part of this episode (Confidence Man). My point? That we are being given a 'skewed' portrayal of Sawyer, I think. One that makes us see him as despicable. But I think we'll get more information, of one kind or another, that will make us rethink our first evaluation. I will enjoy that if it happens. In regards to how the episode played out, it was another brilliant example of dripping out information that comes together in a flash. Once we know everything this episode had to offer, I tend to agree with a poster at another forum (a Lost forum)... The man we know as 'Sawyer' wants Sawyer to be punished. He wants the true Sawyer to be punished and, in his warped way, he can set that up by playing the part of Sawyer and getting people to punish him. But, also, he has become what Sawyer was, and I think he feels 'he' needs to be punished. The two personas have become meshed and he is a messed up dude to begin with. Someone also felt that the title of the show, "Confidence Man" could refer to having (or lacking) confidence as well as a term for con man. So, I'm not ready to like him or forgive him his behavior or cut him any slack. But I'm also not ready to accept Sayid's and Jack's treatment of him. They stooped to a low level... without ever asking him outright... without ever looking at the alternatives to torture (like guided imagery - just breathe with me... or natural cures - eucalyptus leaves). But I am ready to eagerly anticipate the next dribs and drabs of information that come to us: Why was Sawyer on the plane? (we have seen this info on others) Was he lying about the medicine? Why did Kate give him a wet, juicy kiss rather than a peck?

Sawyer says at one point that he and Kate have something in common. We still don't know what Kate was arrested for, but I think she recognized a bond with Sawyer. It will be interesting to see just what the rest of her story was.

I would really like to know why Sawyer was on the plane too. There is much more to learn about him. It is very sad to learn he turned into the man he hated, but I still don't like him though I think he may end up being helpful somehow. I believe he knows Kate was the prisoner and he seems to really be giving her the most problems and I think it is because he knows she is not being true to the others. Sawyer also knows that Jack knows about Kate and he is the other one that Sawyer comes down on.
Sayid seems to be very disappointed in himself for the way he acted. It looks as if he is going to go seclude himself from everyone as punishment. I don't think I would leave the group...security in numbers sort of thing.
I have to say that Sawyer and Sayid are two good looking guys to be stuck on an island with, even better than Dom!!!

Sawyer does seem that he wants to punish the real Sawyer vicariously by becoming the real Sawyer himself.
I think he has deep feelings about what is right and wrong but cannot be truthful on how he feels because he has been so hurt in his life. When he realized he was becoming the man he hated, he could not live with that and that made him even more confused.
I think Kate gave him the wet juicy kiss because she sensed he would not be satisfied with a peck. After all, he was holding back on giving the inhaler back to the point of being torchered and beaten, so why would a peck satisfy him enough to tell the truth?
I really was very surprised that Jack and Sayid resorted to torchering Sawyer, too. It seems that the "animal" is coming out in even the people that seemed like the "good" guys. And Magpie was right, there was no proof and everyone just assumed that Sawyer had the inhaler.
Man, this show is GOOD! I think there is going to be a lot more juicy details on all the people on the plane coming out as the episodes unfold.
